Simultaneous Member Program (SMP) with GI Bill
 
This option requires one to join the National Guard or Army Reserves (duty for one weekend a month / two weeks a year) during college, but still allows one to select Active Duty (full time military) or Reserve Forces (one weekend a month / two weeks a year) for component after college. This is not a scholarship; however it is a way to receive financial aid through the military.

Duration of benifits: 
maximum of 5 years, minimum of 1 year

Restrictions: 
Student must be in (or enroll in) the National Guard or Army Reserves SMP program and attend training for one weekend a month and two weeks a year (usually over the summer) and attend Basic Training and AIT.

Commitment: 
3 years on active duty followed by 5 years in the IRR or 6 Years in the Reserve Components (one weekend a month / two weeks a year) followed by 2 years in the IRR

GPA: 
have and maintain a 2.0 college GPA

Deployable: 
Not during college. After you graduate you will be deployable.

Tuition Assistance: 
Up to $4,500 per year towards tuition and automatic in-state tuition

GI Bill: 
$317 per month plus $350 per month for the GI Bill kicker (total of $667 per month)


Stipend:

  • $300 per month for freshmen
  • $350 per month for sophomores
  • $450 per month for juniors
  • $500 per month for seniors

Drill Pay: 
You will be paid as an E5 at drill and Annual Training ($247 per weekend)

Time in Service: 
time in service will begin as soon as one joins the SMP program, this equates to higher monthly salary when one graduates.

Other: 
Can be used with the HOPE and other scholarships. Cannot be used with chapters 1606 and 1607 of the GI Bill. Cannot be converted to a Regular ROTC scholarship.
