ADVANCED MILITARY SKILLS I
2 CREDIT HOURS / 1 CREDIT HOUR
 

PREREOUISITE: Freshman or Sophomore standing, or permission of department.

DESCRIPTION: The first semester of the Military Science II year is designed to develop student knowledge of self, self-confidence, and individual leadership skills. Through experiential learning activities, cadets develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, and apply communication, feedback and conflict resolution skills. The purpose of this course is to introduce you to issues and competencies that are central to a commissioned officer's responsibilities. These initial lessons establish a framework for understanding of military leadership, and Army values. Additionally, the semester addresses "life skills" including fitness and time management. The Introduction to the Army II class is designed to give you accurate insight into the Army Profession and the officer's role within the Army.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of Advanced Military Skills II, the contracted cadet (*) and non-contracted student should be able to:

1. Understand and live* Army values.
2. Apply communication skills.
3. Set and achieve personal physical fitness goals.
4. Summarize and prioritize information succinctly.
5. Understand the Army’s organization and how the Army runs.
6. Identify duties, responsibilities, and authority of commissioned officers, warrant officers, and non­commissioned officers.
7. Become familiar with the typical activities of a Commissioned Officer.
8. Learn about the many Army career choices.
9. Practice teambuilding within a leadership context.
10. Exercise leadership to build “Team Values”.
11. Display professional military bearing and appearance*.
