Matt Williams was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on June 1, 2010, in Stuttgart, Germany on
Patch Barracks at the Swabian Special Events Center by Rear Admiral William A. Brown. Matt is
currently assigned to the European Command (EUCOM) Joint Logistics Directorate (J4) as the Branch
Chief for Building Partner Capacity and Exercises. He is primarily responsible for direct logistics
engagement and the development of logistics capability for approximately 47 partner nations. These
nations are either North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Nations or NATO-aspirant nations
who have specific goals they are required to meet as part of the conditions for acceptance into NATO.
Matt’s Branch serves as the bridge that assists the Ministries of Defense in achieving their national goals
and building logistics interoperability with the United States. Check out some of EUCOM’s work

Matt’s military career began in 1988, as an enlisted service member who served as a Parts Specialist with
5th Signal Battalion in Fort Polk, LA then later in Heidelberg, Germany during the 1st Gulf War – he
Achieved the rank of Specialist (E4). He then enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
Program at the University of Georgia and was commissioned as an active duty Second Lieutenant in the
United States Army in 1994. Following graduation from Officer Basic Course and Ranger School in

Matt is a 1985 graduate of Reidsville High School and the son of Altamond Williams of Collins, GA and
the late Carol Bridges of Vidalia, GA. He is married to the former Melanie Hooper of Smith Center,
Kansas and has two sons, Alexander (8) and Evan (6). Matt’s next assignment will be as the Battalion
Commander, 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in Camp Humphreys, Korea in June 2012.
